My Poems: The Start

Posted in Poetry at 2:55 am by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

My client inspired me to write this poem. I do not like it, but it means a lot. Very poor poetic technique. Maybe one of my worst poems. I may take it off. Comments appreciated, I suppose.

The Start

No one ever said this would be easy,

I wish these words will not fall apart.

No one ever said this would be easy,

so to tell you this for me is so hard. Read the rest of this entry »

Book Review: King Lear, by William Shakespeare

Posted in Book Reviews, Literature at 5:26 am by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

…Now that I look at the title, it should be a “Play” review, but… you get the point.

I have been re-reading some passages of King Lear on the internet (I do not own it, but I REALLY WANT to) and I remembered reading that play. Okay, to the real review

King Lear, by William Shakespeare

This play is known as one of the four great tragedies of Shakespeare’s works and for a good reason too. I have read the other three, Hamlet, Macbeth, and Othello, and I honestly think that King Lear sweeps them all, even Hamlet. Hamlet has a high literary quality that I cannot deny, but the thematic issues and the character relationships and the plot of King Lear just warps the reader into a whole other world. King Lear Quotes!

Posted in Literature, Quotes at 4:54 am by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

How do I state this? I. LOVE. KING. LEAR. AMAZING PLAY. The one Shakespeare tragedy that actually made me cry.

Anyway, enough sappiness. This is a small culmination of King Lear quotes. Don’t understand them? Post a comment. ***SPOILER WARNING***

He’s mad, that trusts in the tameness of a wolf, a horse’s health, a boy’s love, or a wh*re’s oath.

Wisdom and goodness to the vile seem vile:
Filths savour but themselves. King Lear. Read the rest of this entry »

Dearest Amina >=D

Posted in Faith786's Favorites, Quotes at 3:10 am by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

I do not know if I am posting this because my mind does weird things three in the morning, but I cannot help but laugh whenever I read this because I feel like Amina is actually meeting the main character, Locke, from my book. Anyway, if you do not understand what I am talking about, I am writing a book a book in which I include a character that is very similar to a friend of mine with her name. Amina, this passage is for you, but the other scenes with Amina in the book are not exactly like you:

…He released the dead vine from his hand outside the window and the crumpled leaves drifted slowly to the ground, “Was this fate? Fate that we met and departed? Fate we swore against the war and now part of it? Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony.” Read the rest of this entry »

My Epiphanies (IX)

Posted in Epiphanies, Islam, Knowledge, Literature, Quotes, Sufism at 7:07 pm by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

(I hope you know that according to some madhabs, if you see ‘Assalamu Alaikum,’ you should reply ‘Walaikum Assalam, written or verbally.)

I came home a while ago and my brother had the television and he was watching the first Matrix. (I swear I need to do a whole post series analyzing that movie.) The scene I walked in was when Neo and Morpheus were doing the simulation fight and Neo lost. Morpheus was like-“Do you think that is air you’re breathing now?”

I was obviously breathing and I help my breath for a moment. I started to take in deep breaths and I ran around outside for about 20 minutes. I obviously started to get out of breath and I was swallowing gulps of air. And I kept thinking about that quote–are we really breathing air? Read the rest of this entry »

My *Darker* Epiphanies (I): Morality vs. Reality

Posted in Epiphanies, Knowledge, Literature at 6:02 pm by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

I guess this post is a start of a series of epiphanies that may be a bit darker than my normal ones.

As I probably have mentioned a load of times on my blog, I am writing a book. (INSHA’ ALLAH) And one thing I touch upon is this idea of morality in the real world. One example I use is the idea of violence in war. Sometimes it is necessary to strike an attack to defend oneself from potential harm. For example, many towns were attacked by a single army and that army intends to attack your town. To prevent harm done to yours, you forward to attack them first, although they technically did not do anything against your town yet. Is it wrong or being realistic? What if that army attacked your town and killed everyone? Would it be better to attack first to prevent those chances of death? Read the rest of this entry »

Islamic Poetry: Hafiz’s Poems from I Heard God Laughing–Poems of Hope and Joy

Posted in Faith786's Favorites, Islam, Literature, Poetry, Quotes, Sufism, Tazkiyah at 5:00 pm by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

I am still adoring these poems, so I’ll keep sharing them. These are Hafiz’s poems from I heard God Laughind–Poems of Hope and Joy. It is also a wonderful collection of poetry that reminds me of my relationship with God. I hope you love these poems as much as I do! The first poem I have already dedicated to Sarah:

My Brilliant Image

One day
the sun admitted,

I am just a shadow.

I wish I could show you

The infinite Incandescence

That had cast my brilliant image!

I wish I could show you,

When you are lonely or in darkess,

The Astonishing Light

Of your own Being!

Would You Think It Odd? Read the rest of this entry »

Islamic Poetry: Hafiz Poems from The Gift (I)

Posted in Faith786's Favorites, Islam, Literature, Poetry, Sufism, Tazkiyah at 4:26 pm by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

I have been feeling ill as of late, so I have been trying to read to pass this sick feeling in my stomach. And so I came across The Gift, a culmination of poems by Hafiz. Just reading those poems felt like God was healing me through Hafiz’s words. I feel like every time I read Hafiz’s poems, this old love within me rekindles for God. I hope these do for you too. some of these poems may have already been on my blog, but I love them so much that I have to re-share them again. Again, these are from Hafiz’s The Gift:

My Eyes So Soft

Don’t

Surrender

You Loneliness so quickly.

Let it cut more

Deep.

Let it ferment and season you

As few human

Or even divine ingredients can.

Something missing in my heart tonight

Has made my eyes so soft,

My voice so

Tender,

My need of God

Absolutely

Clear.

Random Notes From a Really Old Lecture-Kindness

Posted in Aqidah, Character, Islam, Islamic Lectures, Tazkiyah at 9:08 pm by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

I do not know where these notes are from, but they are dated back to 2003, which is quite old if you ask me.

I do not remember who was the speaker or where it was, so I cannot prove these are valid notes, but I think they are beneficial, nevertheless.

My Epiphanies (VIII)

Posted in Epiphanies, Islam, Knowledge, Literature at 1:34 pm by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

Hmmm… trying to figure out how to let this one out.

So I am getting my rear kicked in summer school. And I haven’t nerved out about a project for about two years?(?) and last weekend I was going nuts about one that was worth a FAT chunk of my grade. But then I realized I was reconditioning what I was trying to get out of my mind. It doesn’t matter and if it does, that means that there is some internal poison within me. There is a difference between caring to do well for the sake of Allah and going bonkers on it. Even if my whole grade depended on that project, it shouldn’t “nerve me out.” Read the rest of this entry »
