Today’s Christian Sufi Moment

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

Yes, you read the title correctly. Today’s Christian Sufi moment.

This simply cannot wait for I am procrastinating a ton of homework at this hour in the school library. Anyway,

Today I had a freaky movie in my seminar class so I crashed a Bible Study on another floor in the same building. Somehow I misplaced my shoes on the way, but I gatecrashed their session and there were many things people said that got me thinking, but there was something someone said that totally reminded me of Maulana Rumi, Shaykh Sa’di, Ibn Atallah and couple other people and I guess I had to share it again:

Being in the company of good people rubs off on you and helps you become a better person.

I think that struck a chord because that is a slight problem that I face right now. Being in college, finding good friends is important to my spiritual well-being. It is important to be kind and loving to everyone, but who we spend more time with is something that needs more thought. If I am around certain people, I am bound to have similar habits like them. So being around good people may remind you of God, but the flip side may occur–being around people who are very negligent of how they treat people may make me that way too.

So today’s lesson is: Be careful who your friends are. (And be nice to everyone too.)
