Chemistry in the REAL world (V)

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

Here are some new ones I kind of got inspired to write:

Equilibrium: A+B<=>C+D

In an equilibrium reaction, the forward rate of reaction and the reverse rate of reaction are equal. That doesn’t mean nothing is happening, it is just both reactions are happening at the exact same rate and continually reacting, but there is not apparent change because the changes keep canceling each other out. In equilibrium, reactions will keep happening until it reaches this equilibrium point. Similar to the real world, when people spend too much money or live extravagant lives, there are those who are poor or generous to ‘equate’ or ‘reverse’ the ‘reaction.’ It will keep going back and forth until there will soon be a balance (where no one is too poor or too rich.) Or war–there will be those for it and against it, people who believe in religious conservatism and being extremely liberal. The reactions will keep going until there is an equilibrium or balance between the two ends. (Or we are screwed for eternity.)

Equilibrium– aA+bB<=>cC+dD –> Q= ([C]^c[D]^d)/([A]^a[B]^b)

(lower case letters represent molar ratios; upper case letters represent actual compounds, but in the equation, molar concentration of the compounds)

Stoichiometry– Molarity=moles/liters of solution

Here we have this sort of induction use of concepts in Chemistry. moles are used to find molarity. Molarity is used to find equilibrium and so on. We see how chemical concepts are being used in a chain reaction (no pun intended). One concept helps lead to another. Similarly, in the world, you learn about cooking utensils, cooking ingredients, recipes, then you can advance to cook. One leads to another.

Equilibrium– aA+bB<=>cC+dD –> Q= ([C]^c[D]^d)/([A]^a[B]^b)

(lower case letters represent molar ratios; upper case letters represent actual compounds, but in the equation, molar concentration of the compounds)

Here we have a concept of using the end result and the beginning materials to come to another conclusion. This is done all the time in the real world. Often business means to sell things for more money, but after looking at the initial product and the final amount of money, the business makes conclusions on what works or doesn’t work to get money. It wasn’t necessarily about the money that was procured at that time, but figuring out human psychology or preferences. After figuring it out and using the corporate money to make more of the product and get more people to buy, the ‘equation’ should come to an equilibrium. But being that we live in a capitalistic society, it requires more and more buying and spending, that although it appears to be a functional equilibrium equation, the problem is, you will soon run out of reactants because you will soon run out of resources to make the object that sells. So capitalism needs a serious makeover…..

Islam–Iron

This one I read on some website, which if I could find, I would link it. So my apologies, it is not from my own intellect. I am slightly against looking at numerical patterns in the Quran because first of all, what if later on science finds out that number value wasn’t correct–then what? Also, it seems Kabbalah-esque and Islam has its own distinctive qualities as do other religions have theirs. Our belief should not be on numerical patterns, but on faith and our own conclusion that Islam is the religion for a specific individual.

Surah Al Hadid means ‘The Iron.’ It is the 57th surah in the Quran. Fe-57 is considered one of the more stable isotopes of Iron. There are 29 verses and in the 25th verse, Iron is mentioned. If you subtract 25 from 29, you get four. Four is the number of energy levels Iron has. There are 574 words in the surah and 57 is an isotope and 4 again reflects how many energy levels. There are 29 verses in the 57th surah–>2957 kJ/mol is the third ionization energy of Fe.

I know that numerical patterns don’t mean much, but the idea that is there calls a person to see that the Quran is an intricate, vast and profound epic of the Arabic language. There are probably many other numerical patterns that can intrigue us, but this one was chemistry related so I decided to share it because it makes you think how either people look for these things, or wonder if they are actually intentionally there. Allah swt does not do anything without a purpose, so this could be a moment to marvel at His intricacy and detail in the Quran (granted that our current scientific knowledge is true).

(If I find the internet link, I will add it to this post later.)

Now speaking of Iron, I want to eat an apple. More later….

    I love this series. It is so funny and yet so deep. Nice one, faith786.
