My Epiphanies (XVIII)

Posted in Epiphanies, Faith786's Favorites, Knowledge, Social Commentary at 10:39 pm by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

It has been some time since I have posted something in my epiphanies series, no?

Well, last Saturday I attended a college graduation in which many of my college friends just graduated.

It was profound, happy, serious, silly and beautiful. But one of my friends gave the graduation speech and he said something that really hit me close to home. (And warranted this post.) Read the rest of this entry »

Random Ramblings: Creativity

Posted in Epiphanies, Islam, Knowledge, Social Commentary at 4:21 am by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

After a *VERY* long time, large number of requests and thinking, I decided I’m going to try this whole blogging thing again. =)

Today’s Random Rambling is about creativity. What really prompted me to write this were two things: I have been reading up lately how the American education system has been lacking the conditions and environment to help promote and foster creativity in children. The other are the recent criticisms I have been getting that I’m studying chemistry, which is so “left brained,” that it is so cut-dry, logical, monotonous and does not tap into the mind’s sense of imagination and creativity.

First things first:

There is nothing so powerful, so mysterious and so moving like a human thought. Read the rest of this entry »

Pre-Mid Life Crisis Part I: Circles and Chips

Posted in Character, Islam, Knowledge, Social Commentary, Teaching/Education at 10:18 pm by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

I have no idea what prompted the title other than the end of my spring semester and my summer break so far has all felt like a pre-mid life crisis. I do not know if that is really funny or mildly disturbing. Warning: Super long post.

But anyway, on to the topic of this post: circles ad chips. Read the rest of this entry »

Something Beautiful

Posted in Social Commentary, Taqwa at 11:26 pm by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

Note: Written March 9th

Someone said something very interesting that sparked my mind–what makes something beautiful?

My friends were able to give many examples of things that are beautiful and ideas or thoughts that are beautiful. But they were all examples. Interestingly enough, I didn’t really agree too much with what other people were saying on what is beautiful. For them, it seemed to be more materialistic: people and objects. By all means, I think people can be beautiful, nature tends to be very beautiful, and random works or art can be beautiful. But when I first heard the word beautiful, the first thing I thought of was a pen and paper.

I find beauty in the human mind. Read the rest of this entry »

Finite

Posted in Islam, Knowledge, Quotes, Social Commentary at 9:06 pm by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

A lot has been going on in my life. A lot of change from the events around me. From all the things going on, what I have been reading, thinking and seeing in my interactions with people, everything is finite. I was blessed with things and those things will be taken from me. God is the only thing that remains. The only thing that is ever eternal. The vast sky and even the smallest particle were created, so they are limited. So why have attachment or any love of the world if it finite?

“Of all the follies, the greatest is to love the world.”

“Mirrors Walking”

Posted in Epiphanies, Social Commentary at 12:35 pm by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

Recently I went to tutor someone in chemistry because she plans on taking it fall and she feels that she isn’t very strong in science and wanted to get a head start. I brough some of my general chemistry stuff to see what might be important for her to focus on.

She eventually saw one of my formal lab reports (which had couple graphs and calculations typed) and she freaked out. She thought it looked really complicated and didn’t know what half the symbols I typed meant. I told her that it seems a little overwhelming and then she saw my calculus II notebook and really flipped out. (Note to self: do not carry general chemistry packets in your calculus II notebook when going to tutor someone.) Read the rest of this entry »

Renewal

Posted in Islam, Quotes, Quran, Social Commentary at 8:03 am by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

I was riding my bike and I saw many fallen trees. But then a mile down, I saw a plant peek through a road crack. And I realized that is only part of my own reflection. Maybe souls have to take chances against hopelessness and unfavorable circumstances in hopes of a new life. A beautiful life.

“Look then at the signs of Allah’s Mercy; how He gives life to the earth and its death. Most surely He will raise the dead to life and He has power over all things.”

(Surah Rum, Ayah 50 or 30:50)

Paper Flowers

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

Warning: long.

Well, for those of you who missed the memo, last weekend was ISNA.

It was strange going after three years, but it was great until I ran into a bunch of highschool/friends I knew from childhood after a couple of years.

They seemed to be kind of absorbed in all the stuff they did such as research, jobs, grades on MCATs, PCATs, or other random important tests. I mean, seeing someone after three years, is that the first thing that comes to your mind? Read the rest of this entry »

Lessons from Finals

Posted in Humor, Social Commentary at 1:11 pm by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum!

This was inspired after someone told me my grades. (Note, I didn’t find them out–someone told them to me.)

Lessons from Finals:

—Finals time bring out the best in people and the worst in people.

—When reading my notes, the most important things are somehow written the messiest or are straight up illegible.

—The more I studied, the less certain I became about what the answer is or what answer my professor wants.

—”If you have an open book final, you’ll lose your book. If you have a take home test, you’ll forget where you live.”

—During finals, you can eat absolute garbage and still lose weight.

—Or the opposite my occur–you may not eat anything at all and still gain weight. Read the rest of this entry »

Why Faith786 Would Make a Bad Christian

Posted in Humor, Social Commentary at 12:13 am by faith786

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum,

I don’t know if I should have included ‘Bismillah’ in this post because of the cracked out content in this post, but as in the words of someone I know, “If I were to rob a bank, I would still say ‘Bismillah’ before trying to break in.”

Anyway, I am slightly exasperated that random people at my school are attempting to convert me to Christianity, consciously aware that I wear a head scarf, I pray, fast and go to the masjid. So I figured instead of trying to tell people that ‘you should not want to convert me to Christianity because I am perfectly happy and content being Muslim’ but instead that they should see that I would make such a bad Christian. So here is the list of why Faith786 would be such a bad Christian (for humor pruposes only):

—For communion, the week I would have to make the bread I would totally burn it.

—For communion: I would accidentally drop the bread while it is going around. Read the rest of this entry »
