Forgiveness
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Assalamu Alaikum,
We are in the days of Forgiveness. There are a bunch of things running through my mind, but I came across an ayah that warranted this post:
And may not those who possess superiority (in wealth) among you and possess capacity, swear not to give to the relatives and to the needy, and to those who left their homes for Allah’s cause. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
–Surah Nur, Ayah 22 [24:22]
So people, there are two sides to the days of Forgiveness. One is to seek Forgiveness from Allah. Another is to seek and forgive others. How can we be good Muslims–good human beings–if we don’t have the hearts to forgive?

Secrets?
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Assalamu Alaikum,
Yesterday a friend of mine witnessed an open heart surgery. She told me she was intrigued by seeing a live heart beating.
That got me thinking: beneath our still exteriors, our hearts are always beating. Even at our moments of supreme happiness, or deepest grief. We may never whisper a single word, we may carry a thousand secrets or several million thoughts across a silent open field, but our hearts still beat. Consciously or unconsciously, it is there keeping us alive. To me, it is a symbolic representation of God’s knowledge of everything we say or think. We may think we hide things or we may be unconscious of God’s infinite knowledge, but God always knows what is in our minds and in our hearts. Like our hearts keep beating no matter what we say, think or do, God knows everything in us, no matter what.
May not be the best logical connection, but it made me think.
“Whether you say a thing aloud or inaudibly, He has knowledge of the secret and the hidden.”
–Surah Ta Ha, Ayah 7 [20:7]

Chemistry Teaching Musings (III)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Assalamu Alaikum,
I decided that Microsoft Excel is too technologically advanced for me. (Hey–technology isn’t my cup of chai [tea]. I’ll own you at cleaning the chemistry lab….) So I was inspired to write this post after writing about C (graphite) and C (diamond) in my last post.
EDIT: SPIDERMAN! YOU BETTER READ THE WHOLE POST.
FYI: C (graphite) is Carbon in graphite form (the molecular structure resembles that of polygon-like sheets layered on each other) and C (diamond) is Carbon in diamond form (the molecular structure has tight diamond oriented bond structures).
This post may be a bit more Islamic teaching than public school teaching, but I’ll try to touch a little on both.
I am not a teacher, but having extensive experience as a student, I know that one very important part about teaching is not only to convey things in an easy and organized manner, but to somehow make the subject matter relevant. To make the subject matter relevant, I have to make kids appreciate it. In this case, the subject matter is chemistry. (Wow, I got my work cut out for me.) =) Read the rest of this entry »

Loving Rasulullah (saw)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Assalamu Alaikum,
Here are hadith and ayahs on the importance of loving Rasulullah (saw)
“The Prophet is closer to the Believers than their own selves, and his wives are their mothers.” [33:06]
“There is no believer except I am the closest of all people to him in this world and in the Hereafter.” Read the rest of this entry »

Chemistry in the REAL world (V)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Assalamu Alaikum,
Here are some new ones I kind of got inspired to write:
—
Equilibrium: A+B<=>C+D
In an equilibrium reaction, the forward rate of reaction and the reverse rate of reaction are equal. That doesn’t mean nothing is happening, it is just both reactions are happening at the exact same rate and continually reacting, but there is not apparent change because the changes keep canceling each other out. In equilibrium, reactions will keep happening until it reaches this equilibrium point. Similar to the real world, when people spend too much money or live extravagant lives, there are those who are poor or generous to ‘equate’ or ‘reverse’ the ‘reaction.’ It will keep going back and forth until there will soon be a balance (where no one is too poor or too rich.) Or war–there will be those for it and against it, people who believe in religious conservatism and being extremely liberal. The reactions will keep going until there is an equilibrium or balance between the two ends. (Or we are screwed for eternity.)

Chemistry in the REAL world (IV)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Assalamu Alaikum,
(I seriously need to stop using the roman numerals. 4 and 6, 9 and 11 always confuse me….)
Anyway, let us start this post–
Thermodynamics–Entropy:
Anyone who took sophomore chemistry would remember one of the biggest rules of Chemistry–the law of entropy: disorder creates more disorder. This is very applicable to our world today. The U.S. economy is one, war and destruction, environmental natural disasters and instability, capitalism (requires more buy and spending to work–it cannot by its very nature by stable), and even friendships. If some friendships go wrong, it may keep getting worse and worse without outside intervention (random variables) but if things keep going the way they are without human beings changing, it will lead to more and more disorder. So people, for the sake of the WORLD, be better people!

—Ayahs—
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Assalamu Alaikum,
I remember writing a lot of posts back that I would do a post on my favorite ayahs of the Quran. I realize that is probably impossible without saying the whole entire Quran. =) But There are some that hold a special meaning or attachment in my heart. (And insha’ Allah the whole Quran.)
Surah Fatihah: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to God, the Lord of all the worlds. The Beneficent, the Merciful. The Master of the Day of Judgment. Him alone we worship, and Him alone we ask for help. Show us the straight path. The path of those whom You favored; not the path ofthose who earn Your wrath or go astray.
Surah Ikhlaas: Say (Muhammad): He is Allah, the One. Allah, the eternally Besought of all! He does not give birth nor is He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him. (I LOVE IT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!) Islamic Criminal Law
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Assalamu Alaikum,
Sorry I haven’t been posting lately. Been really lazy and reading and thinking a lot. I found a packet on Islamic criminal law at IFS, so I am pretty much copying everything off that packet because I found it informative on how certain crimes are defined. Anyway, I think it can be beneficial, and if I mis-wrote something let me know.
Hadd crimes: Hadd crimes are called “Quranic Offenses.” Repentance or reparation by the convicted person cannot derogate from the severity of the sentence. [I am no alim, but I know that Allah ultimately can forgive and He knows our intentions. But Allah knows best....]
Zina:
This is an offense of unlawful intercourse with someone who is not one’s lawful spouse. Strictly speaking, Islamic law has no general conception of adultery as a violation of the marital contract between to people. The punishment of zina is either death by stoning or a specified number of lashes. For conviction, Islamic law requires either the testimonial of four eyewitnesses, instead of the normal two, or the confession of the accused. Some jurists require that the confession must be repeated four times. The pregnancy of an unmarried woman can be sufficient proof against her. [So women have a higher chance of getting busted, but for men they need to remember, Allah is watching you.]
*I would also like to state hear that Islam has no punishment for a woman who is raped versus consciously doing unlawful intercourse. This is ultimate proof that God judge people by their intentions.*
Qadhf: *EVERYONE OUT THERE, READ THIS ONE*
Anyone who is competent and adult, whether male or female, Muslim or not, slave or free, is liable if he/she FALSELY CHARGES ANOTHER PERSON WITH UNLAWFUL INTERCOURSE, if the slandered party is free, competent, Muslim, and not previously convicted of unlawful intercourse. False accusation (Qadhf) occurs also when one is charged for being illegitimate. Only those who are the objects of slander or their heirs may bring charge of qadhf. The hadd punishment for qadhf is eighty lashes for free people or forty for slaves. Read the rest of this entry »
Chambers of Etiquette, by Mufti Azeemuddin Ahmed at BU *(Part 3/4)*
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Assalamu Alaikum,
I GOT TO GO TONIGHT! Alhamdulillah! But I came about 20 minutes late, so I missed a little bit. I found out there are four lectures, not five, and that there were significantly a lot more people at this lecture series than the Surah Kahf ones. Well, whatever floats your boat, I suppose….
I apologize ahead of times that my notes are bad compared to Sarah’s. And I wrote in Sarah’s lecture notebook without her permission, and I am sorry for that too. Your pretty handwriting has been disturbed by my chicken scratches. But I thought it would look nice if that part of the notebook had all the Chambers of Etiquette notes together…. You can rip it out if you don’t like it.
I tried to copy hadith and ayahs down that the speaker was saying, but he spoke too quickly. So I paraphrased and I am perfectly aware that it isn’t the perfect translation. So when you see “Hadith:” or “Quran:”, it isn’t literally, but paraphrasing. Anyway, notes:

Renewal

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Assalamu Alaikum,
I was riding my bike and I saw many fallen trees. But then a mile down, I saw a plant peek through a road crack. And I realized that is only part of my own reflection. Maybe souls have to take chances against hopelessness and unfavorable circumstances in hopes of a new life. A beautiful life.
(Surah Rum, Ayah 50 or 30:50)
