My Epiphanies (IX)

Assalamu Alaikum,

(I hope you know that according to some madhabs, if you see ‘Assalamu Alaikum,’ you should reply ‘Walaikum Assalam, written or verbally.)

I came home a while ago and my brother had the television and he was watching the first Matrix. (I swear I need to do a whole post series analyzing that movie.) The scene I walked in was when Neo and Morpheus were doing the simulation fight and Neo lost. Morpheus was like-”Do you think that is air you’re breathing now?”

I was obviously breathing and I help my breath for a moment. I started to take in deep breaths and I ran around outside for about 20 minutes. I obviously started to get out of breath and I was swallowing gulps of air. And I kept thinking about that quote–are we really breathing air? Read the rest of this entry »

My *Darker* Epiphanies (I): Morality vs. Reality

Assalamu Alaikum,

I guess this post is a start of a series of epiphanies that may be a bit darker than my normal ones.

As I probably have mentioned a load of times on my blog, I am writing a book. (INSHA’ ALLAH) And one thing I touch upon is this idea of morality in the real world. One example I use is the idea of violence in war. Sometimes it is necessary to strike an attack to defend oneself from potential harm. For example, many towns were attacked by a single army and that army intends to attack your town. To prevent harm done to yours, you forward to attack them first, although they technically did not do anything against your town yet. Is it wrong or being realistic? What if that army attacked your town and killed everyone? Would it be better to attack first to prevent those chances of death? Read the rest of this entry »
