Islamic Quotes

Posted in Faith786's Favorites, Islam, Quotes, Sufism at 7:04 pm by faith786

I am still trying to figure out the site, so I’ll need some time before I finally get this right. =) Anyway, I was rereading The Path to Wisdom: Guidance for Humanity and I came across some quotes I think somehow relates to us all and I liked them, so I figured I will share them with all of you, hoping you might learn/have an epiphany about something good today while enjoying them too. So enough with me acting corny, here are some Islamic quotes for humanity (I’ll put up lit and famous quotes up later inshallah):

One who thinks and reflects develops his foresight and Vision.
-’Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA)

The failure to attain perception is itself perception.
-Abu Bakr (RA)

Hadith: (to a group of people):

“When you pass by the meadows of Paradise indulge freely in it.”
They said: “O Messeneger of Allah, what are the meadows of Paradise?”
He replied: “The circles of knowlegde.”

(The above so totally reminded me of Emerson)

Whoever knows all things without knowing God-Great and Glorious-is not worthy to be called wise because he does not know the most sublime and highest of all things.
-Imam Al-Ghazali

A learned man who doesn’t restrain his passions is like a blind man holding a torch, he guides others but not himself.
-Shaykh Sa’di

Never have I dealt with anything more difficult than my own soul, which sometimes helps me and sometimes opposes me.
-Imam Al-Ghazali

Know that the reality of freedom is the perfection of servitude.
-Al-Qushayri

May God steal from you all that steals you away from Him.
-Rabi’a al-’Adawiyya

Lonliness is better than bad company.
-Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani

It is impossible to lay hands on that which is not predestined for us, and that which is predestined for us will reach us wherever we are.
-Shaykh Sa’di

Anyone who seeks Allah will surely find him.
-Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani

*This next paragraph is AMAZING:

“For instance, if a man ceases to take any concern in worldly matters, conceives a distaste for common pleaures, and appears sunk in depression, the doctor will say, “This is a case of melancholy, and requires such and such prescription. The physicist will say, “This is a dryness of the brain caused by hot weather and cannot be relieved till the air becomes moist.” The astrologer will attribute it to some particular conjunction or opposition of plantes. “Thus far their wisdom reaches,” says the Koran. It does not occur to them that what has really happened is this: that the Almighty has a concern for the welfare of that man, and has therefore commanded His servants, the planets or the elements, to produce such a condition in him that he may turn away from the world to his Maker. The knowledge of this fact is a lustrous pearl from the ocean of inspirational knowledge, to which all other forms of knowldge are as islands in the sea.”

-The Alchemy of Happiness, Imam Al-Ghazali

Those whose eyes never see beyond the world of phenomena are like those who mistake servants of the lowest rank for the king.
-The Alchemy of Happiness, Imam Al-Ghazali

The true greatness of man lies in his capacity for eternal progress.
-The Alchemy of Happiness, Imam Al-Ghazali

(I love that book, now different quotes)

I am happy even before I have a reason.
-Hafiz

What is this precious love and laughter
Budding in our hearts?

It is the glorious sound
Of a soul waking up!
-Hafiz

Dear companions,
We have been in love with God
For so very, very long.
-Hafiz

Something missing in my heart tonight
Has made my eyes so soft.
My voice
So tender

My need of God
Absolutely
Clear.
-Hafiz

(You know, I just can’t write enough about Hafiz)

*addition*

To give pleasure to a single heart by a single kind actis better than a thousand head-bowings in prayer.
-Shaykh Sa’di

Do not sit long with a sad friend. When you go to a garden, do you look at the weeds? Spend more time with the roses and jasmines. (taken into context)
-Maulana Jelaluddin Rumi

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.
-Maulana Jelaluddin Rumi

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I will meet you there.
-Maulana Jelaluddin Rumi

Only from the heart Can you touch the sky.
-Maulana Jelaluddin Rumi

Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.
-Maulana Jelaluddin Rumi

The Eternal looked upon me for a moment with His eye of power, and annihilated me in His being, and become manifest to me in His essence. I saw I existed through Him.
-Maulana Jelaluddin Rumi

Now is the time to know that all that you do is sacred….Now is the time for you to deeply compute the impossibility that there is anything but grace.
-Hafiz

Even after all this time The sun never says to the earth, “You owe Me.” Look what happens with A love like that, It lights the Whole Sky.
-Hafiz

When all your desires are distilled
You will cast just two votes:

To love more,
And be happy.
-Hafiz

This is love: to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally, to take a step without feet.
-Maulana Jelaluddin Rumi

One who seeks the unseekable cannot subsequently be accused of
negligence in seeking what is seekable.
-Hujjat al-Islam (the Proof of Islam) Imam Al-Ghazali

Knowledge raises the low, but ignorance brings down the mighty. -Ali (RA)

I STILL have TONS more quotes to write (I haven’t even gotten started with Rumi or Sa’di. Or finished Imam Al-Ghazali, Hafiz, and other people for that matter) So keep checking up on this note in case I have added more.=)
